im running a video through virtualdub and deshaker, and the projected file size for the video is 82 FREAKING GIGABYTES, and the video is ONLY 16 minutes long,

convert that shit to H.264 MP4 when you finish
![]() 04/01/2015 at 13:16 |

whoa what are you converting? file type to file type?
![]() 04/01/2015 at 13:17 |

Hmm, that's only half the size of a 8-bit uncompressed RGB stream for a video that long.

h264? please h265 is the way forwards

avi to avi

still, no compression yo, the orginal file was only 480 mb

not sure if handbrake or vlc support h265.

i prefer mkv for most of my video.

looks like vlc does

I'd be surprised if VLC didn't support direct eyeball link up feed.

That's banana pants man
What's the point of the conversion if keeping avi? haven't used this program, are you stripping in audio?

Have fun with CPU decoding h.265, since nothing supports accelerated decode of HEVC yet.

no, keeping the stock audio, i using virtualdub along with the deshaker filther to remove camera shake from a video and make panning and movement on the video smoother.

lol, i used to use windows media player, which wouldnt support mkv or flv without external codecs, and vlc supports them right of the box.

I've not had any problems/cpu performance issues with h265 on my machine, though I do have a i5 3570k

Yep.
My challenge lately is I watch all my media on a Raspberry Pi running Kodi (XBMC). It's like a super mini home theater PC.
Which doesn't support mkv or flv. I've been using formatfactory to changeover to H264 MP4s if I end up stuck with an mkv, flv, or avi file.

Yeah, try doing that on your phone, assuming you can even find a player that suppers HEVC. Until GPUs start getting new decoding hardware for HWA HEVC, h.264 will continue to reign supreme.

over the past 3 months I've seen a steady increase in the number of h265 video files available for download so it's slowly gaining momentum which is good to see as if it didn't we wouldn't progress anywhere

yeah, i watch most media on my computer on vlc, but i tend to think stuff in mkv looks better than mp4 or avi.

Yeah, unfortunately just doesn't fit my media network. It's rather complex. I hard wired my whole house so anything on any computer can be viewed on anything else (including all TV's) at instant speeds.
Eventually Windows 10 is going to be available on the Raspberry Pi and then I think I'll have less hold ups.
